A Crossfit trainer injured his spine while trying to lift over 200 pounds in OC Throwdown competition that took place on Sunday.
Kevin Ogar, 28, who is now in critical care unit, has now become
paralyzed from the waist down. No one would have ever expected that the
competition would be the last competition for Kevin.
But Kevin’s spirits are high due to the support he has been getting
from friends, family and well wishers. He has been make efforts in the
unit to sit up, so that he can talk publicly.
Neurosurgeon Mohsin Shah, who has been handling Ogar’s case, was of
the view that Kevin has gone through surgeries till now. “He’s got
everything in him to help him recover in a meaningful way, even if not
walking but certainly do much more productive things”, he further
affirmed.
Organizers for the Costa Mesa event have affirmed that their medical
team was there to help Ogar. Moreover, paramedics’ team also arrived
within few minutes at the site.
The Crossfit community has raised around $225,000 for medical bill
payments. Knowing the same, the Ogar family was quite overwhelmed and
thanked for the support. An event will take place on January 18, which
is organized by Front Range Crossfit at 1338 S. Valentia St. in Denver.
All the proceeds for the event will go to Ogar.
